A Book Review Of The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho: Success Story You'll Surely Want To Know

I wasn't a big fan of reading books. In my life, I've read quite a few books. However, the number of books in my study room, excluding my educational books, will tell you the rest of the story.😐 I'm writing a book review here, which may seem strange, but the book I'm writing about compelled me to do so.

I went to Dhaka for a personal reason about three years ago. My gaze was drawn to a book in a van while I was crossing Nillkhet. It was Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist. I bought the book from there.

The Alchemist

Do you want to know a fun fact?😉 Actually, I did not purchase the book to read. I bought the book because it had the tagline "The International Best Seller" on the front page. 🤣

I read this book after returning from Dhaka, and it has since become one of my all-time favorites. I now read this book whenever I am feeling particularly down in life. This book provides me with a lot of motivation. Since then, I've changed drastically because I've begun to read more books. Some books tell a story that must be taken seriously in ways that make no sense in any normal way. The Alchemist is surely one of them.

The Alchemist is an almost unique book about a person's life journey. Unlike other works of literature, the book's plot is straightforward and simple to follow. However, if you take a step back and consider each incident and word individually, this book is full of riddles and life lessons.

The book itself is extremely remarkable. It is reported that the author just took two weeks to finish the book in 1987. Despite the fact that this is an old novel, its message is still pertinent to our generation. After all, pursuing our "destiny" and "dream" is something that is very personal to us.

So, what exactly is the plot of The Alchemist?

The Alchemist is a story about a young shepherd boy in the Spanish countryside. The boy has recurring dreams about a treasure, but he never finds the motivation to pursue it.

This changes when the young Santiago meets a person who mentors him in a variety of areas. Santiago's quest for his destiny begins after that.

It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.”

~Paulo Coelho

It's not easy to follow your aspirations. In reality, if it were simple, everyone would be pursuing their dreams. The novel teaches us that we must constantly have the guts and determination to pursue our dreams. It also informs us that when a guy is determined enough to attain his goals, he will succeed. Everything is working in his favor, and he is unstoppable.

“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

~Paulo Coelho

There are many comparable life lessons throughout the book.

The teaching about the heart, on the other hand, is one of my personal favourites. For instance, the book suggests that we learn to communicate with our hearts. In other words, pay attention to what your heart is telling you and always follow it's advice, for when anything horrible comes to you, you'll be glad you did. The most injured or impacted portion of your body is your heart.

My favorite conversion about the heart from The Alchemist is

“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second’s encounter with God and with eternity.”

~Paulo Coelho

Aside from that, the book tells us that reaching our goals would not be easy. There will be difficulties, difficult times, numerous obstacles, and a great deal of dread. To deal with them, you must always learn from your mistakes and exercise patience. Furthermore, Alchemist advises that you take rapid action, accept the present, and become adamant about achieving your objectives.

The beautiful thing about this book is that instead of just accepting its arguments, you can apply them to yourself. Through a fantastic story, the book emphasizes its lesson. I became so engrossed in the novel that I finished it in one and a half days. If you are dissatisfied with your current situation and nothing seems to be working in your favor. I strongly advise you to begin reading The Alchemist and organize your life.
